Overview:  Apache tears are a natural, rough, circular, or cylindrical form of obsidian. Apache tears is a volcanic glass that is usually black, but is occasionally red, brown, gray, green, dark with "snowflakes," or even clear.

Legend:  Apache tears represents tears of grief shed by Native American women after their loved ones' deaths due to invading troops.One day a party of Apache Indians was ambushed by an enemy tribe. The Apaches fought bravely but were greatly outnumbered and driven to the top of a high bluff. Their arrows gone and unable to fight and , Apache warriors rode their horses off the mountain to their deaths. The families of the warriors cried when they learned of the tragedy. Their teardrops froze when they hit the ground to become the lovely stones we know today as Apache Tears.
