Diopside is an important rock forming mineral in several metamorphic and basic to ultra basic igneous rocks. Diopside has several varieties, including a chromium-rich gem variety called chrome Diopside. Diopside is a calcium magnesium silicate that crystallizes from magmas. Diopside is found in two forms, the black star diopside, and the green emerald-like Chrome diopside.Diopside also offers a classic four rayed star stone that is very much like a black star sapphire
